Hi guys,

Looking for an upgrade now, current system is down to low settings on most games. Rough budget is approx £2.5k - 3k. I would rather not spend £3k if i can help it.

Looking at benchmarks it seems its a no brainer to go RTX 4080 for the GPU. The rest is subject to change, this is what i have so far:

Case
PCS PRISM-X ARGB MID TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 16-Core Processor i7-13700K (3.4GHz) 30MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX Z690-F GAMING WIFI (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready
Memory (RAM)
64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 5600MHz (4 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
16GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4080 - HDMI, DP, LHR (no design specified)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR H60x RGB Elite High Performance CPU Cooler

This comes to
£2912. I could change the Mobo to a "ASUS® TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI (DDR5, LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready" and save like £65, not sure if it makes a difference.

Aiming to play most new games at a high graphics level. 1080p, 144hz monitors.

Let me know your thoughts, anything worth changing?

The 4080 is total overkill for 1080P. With your budget it would be easy enough to fit in a new 1440P 170hz monitor with just a few changes to that build.

Nvidia is due to release the RTX 4070 12GB and RTX 4060 next month (April). Add that 4070 to this build (£750 if I had to guess) and you'll most likely have the fastest 1080P gaming build in the UK or anywhere else for that matter.

I'm all about high frames per second (I literally cringe when I hear someone say all you need is 60 fps) but with that said a 4080 is a bit over the top imo for 1080P with a 144hz refresh rate.

Cheers guys, ye it does seem to be overkill, but it gives me upgradability in the future? Say 6 months down the line I get a 4k monitor etc. I read that a lot of new games with have ray tracing which the 4080 will work better with? I was looking at the 4070 TI tbf.

Add a 4070 ti and 1440P monitor to that build I posted and it would make the total price of that build: £2526.18 inc VAT

I never understood the "overkill" thing with powerful GPUs at 1080p. In pretty much all cases you still get more performance out of the overkill cards at 1080.
And of course there's future proofing and also opening the door to using things like ray tracing.

You can never have enough FPS. Having more than plenty FPS makes it possible to enable vsync (and more) or buy a better monitor later (the 540hz asus which should be available next month)
