Gaming performance compared to friends

So me and my friend have been playing a lot lately since we both just built pcs, but his seems to out perform mine on many games even though he has lower specs than me. I was wondering if you guys could help me out here.

My specs:

CPU: AMD FX-6300
GPU: EVGA GTX 960 FTW 4gb
RAM: 16gb
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-D3P

Friends specs:

CPU: Intel i5 4460
GPU: EVGA GTX 750ti SC 2gb
RAM: 8gb

It depends on the game. Although he has a GTX 750 Ti and you have GTX 960, his CPU is much more powerful and CPU intensive games will run significantly better on his PC. Also, you may not be playing at the same resolution/graphical settings so that might be the reason his PC outperforms - simply because his settings are set lower.

Do you think if i overclocked my cpu to 4.2ghz I might get similar performance?

No, but you can make it more even. The i5 is way ahead in terms of single core performance, but it also depends on the games you play.

We have mainly been playing games like Arma and Rust. Which I'm pretty sure are cpu intensive.

Yep, they are both CPU intensive games. Just to make sure, try updating your GPU drivers.

Try playing something more GPU intensive like BF3 or BF4. Maybe Witcher or something like that together. If his PC still performs better (it shouldn't; make sure you guys have the same resoultion ans settings) then you have some kind of an issue.
