Gaming processor in i3,i5 or Amd processors

I was planning on building my pc to support games for a pretty long amount of time so can u gus suggest which processor i should go for in between them.Only these two options because i7 is expensive AMD also floats my boat.

If you need more CPU later, you can buy a second hand i7 in a few years for cheap

i5 4690k is the best for your dollars at this time. AMD is to far behind intel now since they refuse to update there FX desktop line.

A Haswell i5. Preferably the i5-4690K so you can OC. If you want to save a little money the non-K version is pretty much the same except for that it can't be overclocked. It's perfect for gaming. The i5-4460 is also great for the money.

I'd only consider AMD for sub-$600 builds and budget workstations at the moment. Intel's architecture is just so far ahead of AMD's. Hopefully that changes soon, we need some competition dangit.

AMD gets the nod only for a relatively low budget.
Intel in some flavor is better.
If you decide on I3 or other unlocked chip, spend a bit more on a Z97 based motherboard to permit a future unlocked cpu upgrade.

What is your budget?
My rule of thumb for a balanced gamer is to budget 2x the cpu budget for the graphics card.

If you anticipate a future graphics upgrade, it is ok to spend more initially on a intel cpu and a z97 based motherboard.

The ideal setup for gaming right now without throwing money around would be the i5-4690K plus the GTX970 in my opinion.
