gaming ram speed

so im curious if i could downclock some ram i was interested getting corsair vengeance the speed is at 2133mhz but i was wondering if it could be at 1866mhz is it possible to down clock this ram?

Why would you get a 2133Mhz RAM just to downclock it? Just get the 1866Mhz RAM sticks.

Yes, 2133 can run at 1866, normally will want to tighten timings from the stock/spec to improve the performance

but is it better to have it at the stock or under clocked speed for gaming?

I'd go the higher stock freq, will gain you a few FPS, but with something like 2133, downclocked to to 1866 and the timings tightened in gaming the FPS will be about the same, maybe only 3-4 difference - the higher freq allows more bandwidth
