Hello,

I need some help if someone has the time to let me know the best route, I am a complete "bimbo" mom when it comes to this but my son is literally begging me for to help him get started but I have no clue where to even begin, He loves to game on his xbox 1, he now wants to record himself gaming, upload to you tube and become a gaming star??!! LOL, I said sure ok, sounds creative, fun, the star part maybe not BUT point being this is over my head, I have no clue what to buy, what I need and so forth, so any help would be appreciated! I do know you need some kind of recording software, a good mic, headphones, and also a lap top that has all the requirements needed to make this happen!

Hey,
If you were to take this list to a local computer shop im sure they would be willing to order and build the system for you (assuming your son doesn't arise to the challenge, im sure he would be capable though).

Hey,
recording xbox gameplay requires a capture card, i'm not really sure of your budget for this whole project but it sure won't be cheap 😛.
Here is a link to a good quality capture card: http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Capture-PlayStation-gameplay-1080p/dp/B00840353W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448996487&sr=8-1&keywords=hd+elgato
Once you have got your xbox hooked up with your capture card you are going to need a system to store the gameplay, process the gameplay and upload the gameplay to youtube. You mentioned a laptop but I would recommend a desktop as it would be much cheaper (and better); you can order desktops to personal specification and they are much easier to upgrade, additionally they are much quicker for the price. You'll have to let me know if it needs to be a laptop for this one.
For a good microphone and headphones i'm not too sure. Im sure someone else will be able to recommend this.

Thanks jajack! You are correct, building a desktop would be better and more custom to what I need. Thanks for your comments, budget wise, well I sure don't want to spend thousands but I do realize that this could cost me close to a couple grand. Ideally I would like to stick around the $1000 mark but I also don't want to have a half-ass system or missing pieces that cause issues or have to updating and adding/modifying and so forth. He is a newbie at this so a user friendly system if there is such a thing would be best!

This system would be capable of rendering high quality videos at a good speed.

I assume you would already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. If not that would probably add another $200.
Recording/rendering software would come with the capture card linked in my previous post.

If your son feels up to the job of building the system I will attach a link to another post on this forum which provides a great guide on how to build your PC.
