Gaming rig performance temperatures.

Hi everyone,

I recently built a high end 4k gaming rig and am hoping to perform a slight overclock on my GPU's.

However my top GPU (closest to the cpu cooler) has a max temp of 72 degrees Celsius under load (this is the highest of the two) without any overclocking while playing far cry 4 at 4k on ultra. Is this normal?

Assuming temperatures would rise when overclocking I would prefer these temps to be lower especially when I haven't overclocked yet.

I have four fans, (2x intake 2x exhaust) but have ordered another for the side panel to increase air flow directly into the gpu's. This is in the hope that temps would lower to around 65 under load as I believe the top GPU is mostly receiving already heated air from the bottom GPU.

Here are my specifications:
i7 4790K intel cpu
850 evo 256 SSD
1TB HDD (seagate)
Fractal design define R4
Noctua NF-A14 PWM case fans x2 (front)
2x Gigabyte Geforce GTX 970 G1 gaming GPU's
Noctua NH-D15 cpu cooler
ASUS z97-a Mobo
Fractal design R3 Newton 800W

I agree, also the top GPU is essentially pulling hot air directly from the bottom one's base plate.

Will do, the bottom GPU runs significantly lower by about 8 degrees Celsius so it probably reasonable to say that this is an air flow problem and not a faulty component...
