What are good motherboards that would be a good start for a gaming rig?

I'll go off that and list a couple other things that might work with it.

Thank you in advance m'friends.

Currently undecided mate. I was hoping someone could just list a couple good gaming mobo's that I could expand on, e.g add the new Core i7 920 with 4gb DDR3 ram and a decent GPU card NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 465 1024MB GDDR5. I'm interested in learning to build computers.

I have a limit of about $1,000 Australian dollars. Hopefully I can turn around and sell what I've made for a profit.

i7 930(you can get with the same price of 920)-6GB DDR3 1333/1600MHz RAMs(have a look at G.Skill Ripjaw series) along with a GTX 460(much better buy than GTX 465) is a decent config for gaming.

{Translation $986 USD}

//small note the GTX 465 outperforms the GTX 460 ~ 1-5 FPS; however there is a GTX 460 2GB that is better than the GTX 465. cool bench site - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/156?vs=161 //

A complete X58 rig with good components is going to cost $1,100 - $1,200 Australian dollars w/no OS.

Example rig configuration:
CASE: CoolerMaster 690 II Advanced
DVD: 24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW OEM
CPU: Intel Core i7-950 3.06 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366 *
HDD: 1TB SATA2 3.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
KB/M: USB Keyboard ; Optical USB 3 Buttons
RAM: 6GB (2GBx3) DDR3/1600MHz (Corsair Dominator) *
MOBO: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX | DDR3/1600 SATA-III RAID w/ 7.1Audio,GbLAN,IEEE1394a,USB3.0,SATA-III,RAID,3 Gen2 PCIe, 1 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI
OS: None
PSU: 750 Watts - Corsair CMPSU-750TX 80 Plus Power Supply - Quad SLI Ready
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 2GB 16X PCIe

* You can save a little by using the i7 930; 1333 MHz vs 1600 MHz {loss of 2-5 FPS}
