Gaming Router Advise

Don't buy into the hype. There is no router that can solve the problem of wireless and games. Wireless is susceptible to external interference which causes damage to packets. Wireless attempt to correct this damage by resending the data until it gets a clean copy but this causes delays.

Games depend on the delays between packets to coordinate with the server and get in game action in sync. Random delays cause massive issues in games.

The main difference in wireless routers is the speed. Games need very little bandwidth....so people with small internet connection can buy the game. Most games are well under 1mbit most are much closer to the 300k-500k range. So a fancy router that claims 1200m will do no better than one that claims 150m.

The quality of the wireless signals have very little to do with the router it is much more affected by your house and your neighbors who also run wireless

Bottom line the best router to use for games is one that has ethernet ports which all do. You do not want to use wireless for games. You are better off investing in powerline network devices if you can not run a ethernet cable.

Thanks for the help all!

@bill001g: I know wireless and gaming is like saying a "smart blonde". My gaming PC is connected via GigaLAN with a Killer NIC. Though, thank you for taking the time to explain it in detail. Maybe someone else reading this will be able to benefit.

@PyroRaider: Thank you as well for the help. I just purchased the ASUS RT-AC87U (Cyber Monday Sale)

@ALL: The issue I needed to resolved is to have all my devices connect without problem. I have a MyCloud Mirror, multiple desktops, multiple laptops, multiple phones, and a BluRay. My current setup would have "limited connection" issues and/or not connect to various devices after multiple disconnects and reconnects. Additionally, the range was HORRIBLE. I'd be luck to get to the other side my condo (900sq/ft) and step out onto the deck without loosing connection.
