Trying to decide between an AMD and an Intel build. I already have the HDD, SSD, & graphics card (which isn't on partpicker, a 2070 super founders edition). I want to spend around $1500, max would be $1800. I want to game at 1440p, i have a Dell Monitor S2719DGF, 155Hz, 1ms response.

Why the 3600 not the 3700X? Also the resolution is pretty much entirely dependant on your graphics card. Refresh rate at lower resolutions like 1080p is where the CPU comes into play

I originally was hyped on the 3700x, but the last Toms Article, here, basically showed that they're equivalent except the 3600x is just cheaper. Also, there's a newegg combo deal with that mobo/cpu worth $20 off.

The 2nd build wins by default.
The 1st build is invalid as you will not get good temps pairing a 9900k with a budget cooler like the 212 EVO.
9900k needs at least an NH-D15S(before overclocking), or 280mm AIO.
If you plan to overclock, then that changes to a 360mm AIO, or go custom loop.

Thanks for the input, I'd definitely be interested in stock water cooling, not so much a custom loop. Something like EVGA CLC 280 could fit my budget.

You could save some money by sticking with the 3700x stock cooler. The only real downside of it is that the fan gets loud once things really get crankin'.
You can control this somewhat via the fan control in bios.
With that, you can do away with the HDD and have 2 SSDs.
Replace the 2070 Super with RX 5700XT. Same performance as the former, but cheaper. [But wait for the aftermarket models with better coolers later this month.]

Oh, sorry.
I was trying to offset the cost of getting 2 SSDs by staying with the stock cooler, but it looks like that won't be enough.

Thanks, your help has been very much appreciated so far. I'm not actually paying for the SSD/HDD - i'm porting those over from my old PC. I just kept them in the build for completeness. I do like the idea of getting a .m2 SSD, but probably not that one. Thanks again.
