Hi

A friend of mine Is looking to upgrade or get a new rig for gaming (Fallout 1976)

Should he start a new build or should is there any parts that he could salvage to build his new rig?

GTX970 can still provide min 60 fps gaming at 1080P in most games....

120 GB SSD is too small for anything beyond WIndows and Office these days, IMO...

I'd add a pair of 4 TB WD red drives, and repurpose the rig as a NAS, etc...

No need to get a whole new system. Just get a used 4790K, overclock a bit, and you'll be well above the recommended requirements for the CPU.

It's $240 for that upgrade.

But if you were to go for Coffee Lake you'd have to get this minimum.

That's $408.86 before the mail in rebate. If you go with Coffee Lake though you'll have an upgrade path to the Core i9 9900K.
