Hey guys,

I'm just wondering based on my system, which component upgrade would be advised to upgrade my gaming experience. On the lowest settings, I can run games like Ring of Elysium, but the framerate is too low to play competently.

Sorry I'm not as experienced as you guys, so I posted the relevant parts of my DXDiag. Thanks for your help.

Solution
Both the CPU/motherboard platform, and the GPU are out of date.

I don't know which is the more limiting factor specifically for Rings of Elysium, though.

Ideally, you'd upgrade to a modern Intel (8000 series) CPU and motherboard, or AMD Ryzen CPU and motherboard along with DDR4 RAM, as well as upgrading to a video card suited for 1920x1080 @ 60 at max details.

I would *guess* that the GPU is more limiting at the moment, but the only way to know for sure is to run a hardware monitor program that will plot a graph of GPU and CPU utilization over time. Whichever one seems to spend more of its time maxed out is the bigger limiting factor.

On the video card side, assuming you're keeping the same monitor in the foreseeable future, pick...

On the video card side, assuming you're keeping the same monitor in the foreseeable future, pick the least expensive among these video cards:
- AMD RX 580 8GB
- Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB

I think you'd at least see some improvement upgrading the video card, though upgrading your CPU/GPU platform will be needed at some point.

BUT... the hardware monitor's results will let you know which is the weakest link in your system for the games you play. Note that one game may depend more heavily on the CPU, and another game may depend more heavily on the GPU.

Also: both of those video cards will draw more power. What is the manufacturer and model number of the power supply you currently have?

Dude. You're amazing, thanks so much! What kind of hardware monitor would you recommend?

Unfortunately, that's the area I don't have expertise in. I've seen people mention HWInfo. I think I've seen people use MSI Afterburner for this as well, but HWInfo is the one I've seen mentioned more often.

That links to a GTX 1070 product description.

That said, I *think* it's sold out. Shame, I'd normally say hold out for an RX 580 8GB, but at $120, that RX 570 4GB is hard to beat.

BUT... the RX 580 8GB from Power Color (Red Dragon version) is still $189.99 less $20 mail in rebate, which isn't too shabby at all.
