Gaming with a wireless keyboard and mouse

Hey guys I'm not a hardcore gamer meaning I only play games like FFXIV, FFVI, Civilization, Anno and I think you get the point. And I was wondering would I see a huge difference in performance or reaction time if I choose to use a Logitech MK710? I'm not worrying atm about battery life all I'm am concerned about is just pure performance and will I be able to tell a difference without nit-picking. Thanks

In my opinion only have a wireless anything gaming is not that good. I have a wireless mouse and it has lag time. What I mean by this is I will move the mouse and just for a split second the pointer won't move.

Also when I am on my laptop doing something and the power cord from the laptop is near my mouse, it causes some kind of RF interference with the mouse. It is like mouse has a mind of it's own.

My head phones for my TV in certian spots cuts out the signal. So I would say no to the wireless stuff. But like I said this is my opinion with my experiences with wireless. I can't speak for anybody else.

Playing Final Fantasy, I don't know if it would affect the preformance or not. You probley wouldn't even see any difference in it at all. I do wish you good luck and sorry for not much help.

dm, that's because your wireless mouse is probably a laser running at 2.4Ghz, same as your headphones maybe, and router and most wireless devices now (very overloaded frequency for todays market of technology). My wireless is amazing, and I am just using a Logitech M510 and with the Setpoint setup, I have accelerated speed enabled for games, no lagging, and is this lag on the laptop? That to will cause issues as I have seen it, it happens on my wife's laptop constantly, changed my phones and bought her an optical, not laser, wireless mouse that uses different frequency, plus phones are 5.8Ghz and router not near her laptop, work great now, more responsive then before. But nupe, everyone will have pros and cons, mine are all good now, but changes were needed. PS, I have used wireless mice since the first Logitech came out with it, I still have a Logitech Sensa PS2/Serial mouse from 1998 and it works great, still have my wireless Logitech keyboard, all work fine. So it's all dependent, if you set the speed fast for your mouse, enable settings in game, you will see a difference, of course set this speed to your comfort zone, I move my mouse a 16 of an inch either way and my cursor goes from one side of screen to the other almost instantly, can get a little fast in games like EQ, EQ2, Skyrim, and some shooters (had to actually turn mine down in MW3, was turning around 360 with a nudge and kept getting shot in the back because of over spinning) LOL

While I have not played games with a wireless keyboard, I have played games with the wireless Logitech Performance MX mouse. Those games include Crysis, Crysis 2 and Fallout 3 which are all 1st person shooter and I didn't have an issue.

Generally speaking, wireless input devices can have some input lag, but I don't think it is a lot. However, it varies between each wireless device. I don't really notice much (if any) difference between using my Logitech Performance MX mouse or my Logitech G500 wired mouse.

Thanks alot guys for your feedback and thoughts. I went to Fry's last night and got Logitech G500 and this mouse is by far the best mouse I have ever owned. It just feels right lol and I got Logitech G510 this keyboard is ok to me. Something about it I just dont like but I cant put my finger on it now lol I maybe returning it soon...

Wireless mice seem OK for gaming. Not so sure about keyboards. My gyration truly sucks, but it's technology is old. Playing games like ffxi and ffxiv can be tricky with a wireless keyboard. Commands are usually keyboard macro'ed, and if a wireless keyboard misses a keystroke, you might not get a spell off in time. This is coming from a WHM perspective, YMMV.

Hello, well here's my take on wireless that always shunned me away from wireless mice - if it's wireless it's got to have a battery inside, there's 2 cons to that
batteries have to be recharged/replaced - which might cause a problem if the battery loses the juice in the middle of your game, also as some batteries drop to lower charge the devices might experience connectivity issues as the battery isn't able to sustain signal strength

second con is batteries add weight, a lot of it, if you use palm grip you probably wouldn't mind but if you use anything else you don't want such a heavy mouse, your muscles will tire faster during intense game.

As far as wireless keyboards go they typically can sport larger batteries as weight and movement isn't an issue for a keyboard, but there's still an off chance that you're left with no keyboard in the middle of the game as your battery dies on you.

Personally I find that wireless is more convenient for productivity and portability applications rather than performance applications such game video games.

I own a wireless keyboard and mouse because i play on my TV and honestly i havent had any problems at all. It works fine aslong as your batteries arent dieing. When they die it will lag for a second, replace the batteries and its back to normal. If your sitting right next to your TV/Monitor grab a wired one, if your like me and sit about 5-6 feet away from your TV grab a wireless.

For the games you listed, a wireless mouse and keyboard would be fine. If you were playing FPS games in online multiplayer competitively, it would be a different story. Personally I don't use wireless products, and I don't prefer them for the reasons Antizig listed as well as their inherent lesser performance. None of those things are nearly as much of an issue if you're just enjoying some relaxing single player fun though.

@rattman Thanks for your take on the wireless. You have given me some ideas to check out on it since I am using one.

It is a Microsoft palm grip ergonomic lazer mouse. It is like a having a baseball in my hand.

I never get pain or fatigue. When my batteries get low I get a screen message no matter what I am doing, gaming, art, or what ever I am doing.

It will pop up and say my batteries are low plus a little lite on the mouse will lite up and blink.
