I've never had a mechanical keyboard before.

I'm getting my first mechanical keyboard online, is there a way to tell if you can change the keys online? Can you change games to another keyboard interface? Anyone have any experience using non-QWERTY keyboards especially for gaming?

Thanks for any help.

If the keyboard is QMK/VIA compatible, then yes. Got a link to this keyboard you speak of?

Can you change games to another keyboard interface?
Yes, you will need to go into the game's settings and then change the key binding. That's what I know though. Some titles don't allow for users to change key binding.

Can you elaborate on what you're referring to as non-QWERTY? Keyboards will have the QWERTY on the (row 3)R3.

I'm looking at these https://www.bestbuy.com/site/compare?skus=6475696,6558754,6515274,6424866 and https://www.microcenter.com/search/...294821144+4294810469+4294810468&myStore=false https://www.microcenter.com/search/...294821180+4294821979+4294820582&myStore=false https://www.microcenter.com/search/...4294820995+4294822435&NTK=all&sortby=pricelow (3 microenter links, tried to choose a lot of options to limit the amounts)

Oh I meant to write it again, but non-QWERTY would be DVORAK/Colemak/Workman/etc. keyboard layouts. So for question 2 and 3, i basically want to know if a DVORAK keyboard for example could be used for gaming with the keys moved, not just functionally, but i guess visually too. WASD would be ,AOE, i want the games to know my , is where W was. And want to know anyone's experience with it or if there's any suggestions. I was also considering buying 2, and have the DVORAK for example keyboard solely for typing, but would rather have just one (thinking of having to replace 2 keyboards when they stop working rather than one).

Edit: Also, could consider these https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?af=false&id=pcat17071&qp=features_facet=Features~Wired^formfactormv_facet=Form Factor~Full-size^keyboardtechnology_facet=Keyboard Technology~Mechanical^features_facet=Features~Palm Rest&sp=+currentprice skuidsaas&st=keyboard and in the first link, the keyboard missing was this keyboard https://www.bestbuy.com/site/razer-...gb-backlighting-black/6475696.p?skuId=6475696

First comparison are all optical keyboards with palm rests except this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/razer-...gb-backlighting-black/6475699.p?skuId=6475699

Read that optical is better than mechanical.

Edit 2: Are detachable palm rests or non-detachable palm rests better? How can I tell if they are detachable or not? Microcenter had this as a sort option on only one of the links i added and bestbuy doesn't have it as a sort at all. Not sure if it would say in the specifications of either site or how easy/hard it'd be to find out through the manufactured site or other sites.
