I haven't built a PC in quite a long time, so please bear with me while I shake off some of the rust. I'm looking at building a multipurpose PC. Specifically a good gaming system that can also act as a workstation, but also is fairly quiet all around.

On the gaming side, I want to be able to run all of the latest games on high settings (possibly even maxed out). I also don't want to have to worry about swapping out components for a long time as newer games are released.

On the workstation side, I'm going to use it for video editing as well as running approximately a dozen or so VM guests (Windows/Linux) for personal lab purposes.

I know a performance machine and silence tend to clash, however, it looks like there are a couple of options to meet my noise reduction requirements (Fractal R4 case, SeaSonic PSU, etc...).

Keeping all of the above in mind, there are a few components that I can't make a final decision on, or more specifically the GPU. I was originally heading down the path of GeForce GTX 780, but then the R9 290X came out, which is what I have tentatively selected in my part list below, however, since the price of the GTX780 was just slashed significantly and Nvidia announced the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, I'm not entirely convinced that and R9 290X is the way to go (especially since there are no specs readily available on the GeForce GTX 780 Ti just yet).

Should I be concerned about airflow with the case and components I've selected as well as any concerns about compatibility?

Here is a link to the build I'm planning:
