Anyone know of any FS9 aircraft with G-1000 MFD/PFD instead of steam gauges.
Either available now or coming. I am currently doing my IFR rating in a
172SP with the G1000 package (TIS and Wx Weather) and KAP-140 autopilot. It
is a very sweet setup, and I would love to replicate this at home so I can
practice approaches at less than $139/Hr (ouch!).

Thanks

I haven't found one as of yet, but I'm sure somebody has already made
one...I'll tell you if one comes up :-D

Project Magenta are working on it.

Look for "May 2005 - Announcing the General Aviation Glass Cockpit"

Demo is here, requires registered FSUIPC/WideFS:

I haven't tried it yet. Let us know if you do.

Nope, no reasonable FS9 emulation of the G1000 exists, nor is likely to
for a while. The G1000 is even more complex than the Avidyne Entegra
system (e.g. it incorporates the GNS430/530-style GPS, a transponder,
etc.) and it will be a while before anyone does a decent job at it. I
wonder if it will *ever* happen, at least to an accuracy level that
satisfies my own quest for realism 8^) .

You may already know this, but Garmin (or maybe it's Cessna) has a
PC-based simulator available for the G1000. The "available" part is a
bit of a misnomer, as I haven't been able to find it on the web
anywhere, and the only official channel I'm aware of is via buying a
G1000-equipped Cessna airplane. However (to make a long story short) I
have been able to play around with that simulator a bit, and it has
*very* high system requirements. It also appears to be somewhat buggy -
I could not get certain parts of it to work (e.g. all joystick inputs
working).

That all said - the GPS section of the G1000 is very very similar to the
GNS430/530, and so if you were to incorporate RealityXP's GNS simulator
into your FS9 setup, you would be ahead of the game in terms of really
learning and using the Garmin GPS stuff for instrument approaches. (I
transitioned to the Cirrus SR20 a couple years ago, fairly soon after
getting my instrument rating, and my RXP GNS experience really greased
the skids in terms of understanding the GNS430 and in particular, its
IFR approach functions.)

By the way, a friend of mine that is considering an instrument rating
recently asked me whether he should just do it all in a G1000 airplane.
I suggested that he do it in a conventional ("steam" gauge) airplane,
since he is a renter pilot just as I am, and the vast majority of the
rental fleet out there will have round dials for some time to come. I
feel that the steam>glass transition is easier than thuther way around;
at least one justification for this is that the round dials come with
some limitations/flaws that are not present in glass cockpits - e.g.
precession, vacuum system, etc.

But hey, if you're taking the G1000 route, more power to you... Even
with 20+ hours of Avidyne time under my belt, I was pretty overwhelmed
in the G1000-equipped Diamond DA40 that I flew recently for an hour or
so. There's a lot going on on those two displays! It will take me a few
more hours behind the G1000 before I'm at all comfortable with it.
