Gateway 886 won't power up.

replaced power supply unit. pc still won't start.
any way to bypass power button ot to test to see if the power button is the fault?

Safest way, swap case power switch with reset switch. Then try to boot with reset switch. Otherwise, pull the 2 pin header of the power switch from the motherboard and use a small screwdriver to momentarily short the two pins.

is a reset switch something that I can buy at staples or bestbuy ?


the power to the mother board is a 20 pin -- i read about jumping across 2 pins to test power unit; is this what you mean ?

trying to help an older neighbot who only uses pc a few times a year
