Gateway BIOS Modding:

I have a question for this community..i know that in some aspects, modding a BIOS is frowned upon. But what if you need a SATA function (e.g. AHCI, RAID, etc) to work..or if you need to overclock your CPU (gaming)..OEMs should REALLY think about things like this. People are NOT going to buy a PC every 3 months. Ok!!?? (laughing & sighing)..I feel better..my question is does anyone have a BIOS (modded) for a Gateway GT5026E. I just want an unlocked BIOS with the Gateway/Acer SLP still in tact..i saw one in another site..but I'm afraid to use it..(smile)..I can't even find an editor for it..(AMD has a great one..& I used the one for Phoenix..but the other ones (Intel/Award) SUCK)..so please..if anyone knows anything about this..give me a holler..thank you all in advance..Peace..& God bless you & yours..

I don't have much experience modding BIOS's, and I'm not going to recommend doing it.

As far as finding a particular, I believe https://www.bios-mods.com/ has been around the longest, and documents the changes - plus has a forum to discuss specific models etc. That would likely be your best place to start.

Again, not recommended/suggesting/condoning that you do it though.

thank you for responding, Barty..but what choice do I have? I mean other than just being realistic & just buy a new PC..(I mean that IS an option)..I want to have this particular one to run flawlessly..i DO see you point though, Barty..(laughing)..I had to hotplug my BIOS with my GM5688Es..(I had 2 of them)..one BIOS was locked..so you couldn't RAID/AHCI..the newer one you do anything you wanted to..so I bricked the motherboard of the locked BIOS..so what I did was remove the BIOS chip from the good one..when you're in Windows..the BIOS serves no function..so I CAREFULLY removed it..LOL..put the dead one in..reprogrammed it..turned the PC off..then put the reprogrammed chip BACK in the dead board..& BOOM!!..it worked..&?? I could RAID..then I found out about AMIPCB..(or something like that)..ANY AMI BIOS can be unlocked/programmed with this software..i have like 3 BIOSES that I need either modded/unlocked..one is a Dell Mini 1010..(I think that one's BIOS is Phoenix)..the Standard Dual PCI IDE driver will not work with an SSD..THEN..i have the Gateway (Intel)..& lastly, a Sony Vaio VPCM121AX..(InsydeH20)..(same situation)..no AHCI/RAID functions..it's the worst..LOL..i need to have AHCI/RAID added to those BIOSES..i mean if you make a PC for Windows 7..why wouldn't you put SATA functions on it? (I'm talking about the Dell Mini)..there WAS a guy who added a option to add more MBs to the video..but that was about it..(no SATA ROM options)..& Barty..I tried your site (bios-mods)..I've been there..(as a matter of fact..I've been there for almost 4 years)..no one even wrote a Brother back about anything..i tried to ask for mods on the PCs I named..& nothing..(CRICKETS)...LOL..they actually HAVE an unlocked BIOS for my Gateway..but I have an issue with an Acer SplashScreen..(sighing)..who knows, Barty..I may have to (PAUSE) bite the bullet..LOL..it's just a personal preference..but I want a Gateway splash screen..(laughing)..I need to get off the Similac..LOL..Barty..I'm going to try the (thinking)..I pray that the BIOS won't ask me for a COA..THAT..is a headache..LOL..alright..I'm just venting..& MAYBE..someone else will be able to help out..(not that you haven't helped)..again..thanks..Peace..& God bless..
