Newbie here so go easy ! From reading posts here and realizing my purchasing a Gateway less than a year ago was in need of up grades. I figured I would start with Ram, as I could not read the info on the card so I removed it to retrieve the info. The in side of the case was fairly dusty so having it powered off I air dusted it and it hasn't booted since !!
I only get a brief blip of "no input signal from DVI and right back to black screen ! Otherthan OSC lockout on my HP flat screen monitor of which was another wasted goose chase that produced no results. I can get into the BIOS utility but not knowing what I'm looking at or doing nets me nothing ! PLEASE HELP It's a Gateway DX 4870 UR 348 DT.GDDAA.16 , 2nd Gen Intel I core i32130 processor , 4GBDDR3 mem 4096mb 3.40GHz 500GBHDD , 7200SATA , Multi Inone Digital Media Card Reader , Windows 8.
I do realize I need to upgrade the power supply, Ram and poss the SSD but the only thing good about this machine was the price !! Now I see why....

Solution
The PSU is the power supply, yes. And you only need to upgrade it IF you add a dedicated graphics card.

As far as your issue is concerned, does the PC boot up fine, but just no picture?

OR does the computer only boot for a second and then shut down?

I would first remove the RAM and reinstall it firmly. It should take some force to get the sticks properly seated. They only go in one way also.
Oh I understand that. I was just reading some of the reviews and posts about the Gateway desktops. And I realize this unit is probably still under warrantee but I'm still waiting on a response from Gateway support !! I actually took the hard drive out of my HP desktop and have it piggy backed into my Gateway as an additional drive. At least I think its working that way.
At any rate I was going to get some additional ram cards installed as well as a larger power supply ! Unfortunately I had just replaced the power supply in my HP with the 500w unit and then shortly there after it crashed....

I'm assuming the PSU is the power supply and not what I'm looking to replace at this point !! OK It's only what was recommended by this site t another gateway purchaser for a future upgrade, thats why I mentioned it. Now hopefully someone will respond to the real question I had as to whether I have a motherboard/graphics card problem here because they are integrated into the mother board ! And I have a black screen, no signal to monitor. And I tried another monitor, same issue.

If booting up is powering up but with no response to the monitor doing anything , yes. It will turn on and stay that way indefinitely ! I tried moving the ram to a different spot as when I tried (per the forum) to make sure it was firmly seated, I broke the upper tab off that releases the ram card. And I assume those release tabs come with the motherboard.
Anyway I've tried it in another slot as well as firmly nstalling into the original slot all ith no results. 🙁 And I do know that I was putting them in correctly. I have also tried another monitor that got the same message about no input and the signal.

A lot of answers and help in here ! Thanks everyone for everything but what I asked, otherthan some comment about me buying junk ! Well that junk came from Gateway and they still aren't contacting me from support, kinda like this place. More un answered tech questions in here than answered !!
