Gateway DX4850-43c upgrades

Hey folks. How can I find out what upgrades my computer can handle? I'm considering ssd, ram and video card. Thanks.

It will take any SSD no problem. You'll probably need a 2.5" adapter for it to fit into the 3.5" bay though. As far as other upgrades like a video card, that depends mostly on the motherboard (has to have a PCI express x16 slot), and an adequate power supply. From experience, most mass-manufactured PC's only have 300 to 400 watt power supplies (there are exceptions, but that's the average). The stock PS probably wasn't designed with a discreet graphics card in mind, so you'd have to choose a card that has power consumption that your PS can supply. Also, the PS might not have any PCIe power plugs on it (6-pin, or 6+2 pin), which any high-end GPU will need. You'd probably be better off upgrading the PS to something with higher output. You could install a lower-end graphics card that doesn't need an auxiliary power plug though. If you want a high-performance card, you'll probably need to upgrade your PS. For RAM, it will be compatible (according to Crucial) with DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) memory. The Core i5 will support up to 32 GB of memory in dual-channel.

The power supply in your computer is replaceable. A video card looks as if it would drop right in. With a nice graphics card and power supply, you'd definitely have a very formidable gaming computer.

Thanks so much guys. I think the power supply is 300 watts so that could definitely be a problem. I was on crucial and it says windows 7 - 64 bit the max ram is 16. I have no idea what dual channel means. I will google tonite but I think if I go from 6 to 12 or 16 that's all ill need anyway.
I was looking at power supplies. I could probably just replace that or replace the entire case for a couple bucks more.
Do I put my os on the ssd and everything else on the hdd? What's the best way to go? Thanks.
