Gateway fx6800 won\'t turn on.

I left for vacation, and turned off my Gateway fx8600 and upon arriving home - it won't do anything.

I keep it plugged into a battery backup -
I tried plugging it straight into the wall...

Syptoms:
1) Standby power light on the MotherBoard IS lit
2) Shorting the external power swith leads on the MB does nothing
3) CMOS battery is good

THis is the third major problem with this and I'm ready to take a sledge hammer to it.
Problems:
1) Bad memory ( replaced - now running 12GB )
2) Video Card died ( replaced HIS IceQ )
3) No response to power switch ( Current problem )

Is it time to replace the MB? I'm ready to do what it takes to make this work and not have to keep futzing with this every other month!

I do not have one around. Does someone know what I would need to do to turn the power-supply on? Is there a lead I can ground, etc.?

From research - Pin 14 on the ATX power supply connector to ground should turn the PS on.

I have verified that the PS will turn on if I ground the pin, however the connector can not be plugged into the MB.

If the connector is hooked to the MB, then grounding pin 14 does nothing. ( I even tried removing all the memory and the FX Card )

This leaves me thinking that the problem lies in the MB. However, just turning the PS on manually by grounding the pin doesn't mean that the PS puts out the correct voltages. The fact that it won't even try to turn on, when connected to the MB has me stumped!

Fixed!!! It WAS the Power Supply.

Those of you out there saying that the PS that came with these - I had the 500w, really a 450 w/ peak output of 500, It's NOT enough.

I'm running 6 sticks of 2GB Patriot memory and a HIS IceQ graphics card, and this died.

I run external drives that are on their own power, but now I feel like I could use the provided hot bays.

Word of warning! Up the Power Supply NOW before you have to later!

My problem, after hurricane Irene came through and flipped our power off and on several times, is that the on-off switch is mostly unresponsive. I have to give it time and either press it in for extended durations (from 4 to over 60 seconds) or keep pushing it on and releasing it -- like sex but less fun.

Mine is a Gateway FX 6800-01e and it's been a great machine for years but I may have to take it somewhere for repairs. An internal light on the MoBo comes on but it won't start until after it's had power for a few minutes and made me fiddle with the on-off switch for a good little while.

Once it's warmed up, the power switch is just fine.

You know, my power switch was acting weird before it completely died. The reason is because the power supply isn't ready.

In my case, the light on the Motherboard stayed lit always making me believe that the power supply was good when in fact is was NOT.

Don't pay someone else's markup on the PS or the installation. These are relatively easy to replace.
I bet money on your PS being bad.

what specific Power supply did you replace it with?
