Gateway FX6840 Desktop/PC. memory

I have a Gateway Desktop FX6840 with Win 7Professional, 64 bit with 8gb memory. Some say 8gb is my limit, others say with the 64bit Win Professional I can go higher memory. Before buying 16gb to see who is right, I thought I would ask someone with experience in this matter.

With 64bit Windows you can use more than 8GB of memory so you will be fine.

win7 32bit is limited to 3.5gb of ram. win7 64bit i believe is limited to some 128gb of ram, far far more than the 16gb your looking at.

yes you can add more ram. your motherboard has 2 open slots so you can get two 4gb sticks of ram. the ram you have in there is 1333mhz rated ram so make sure you find ram that runs at that speed as your motherboard may not be able to recognize some 1600mhz rated ram.
