I bought a used Gateway LX6810 and picked up a new power supply (430 watts) and a case fan. Just for fun I added a SSD too. The graphics card still gets over 80 degrees celcius when I have nothing but internet tabs open - granted there's 200 of them, but I'm still surprised that the graphics card is running twice as hot as the other components. Sometimes the CPU fan ramps up to 5,000 RPM despite my CPU temp staying around 40 degrees. The computer seems to work fine, but I didn't know if I should be concerned about the GPU temp or CPU fan speed. Are these ok?

Does your Gateway use the motherboard's Nvidia integrated video adapter or does it have a stand alone, discrete video card? If stand alone, what make/model?

If the integrated, those do run hot. A chipset cooler can help (or a fan added to move air through the system better).

Please clarify.

It uses the Nvidia Geforce GT120. I think that's discrete?
