Gateway Motherboard/CPU Compatibility

I have a Gateway DX4710-05.

It has a G33M05G1 motherboard. I want to replace the stock Q6600 with a Q9550. First, does anyone know if this will work and second, is there an appreciable performance difference between the two?

The gateway and dell motherboards aren't designed for upgrading the cpu. I would call gateway to find out for sure; otherwise, assume it won't work. A newer version of the 4710 uses the q9300, but the board is probably different.
