Gateway NV53 screen problem

Alright.

Ive had this old NV53 that hasn't been functioning for a few weeks, but I haven't fixed it because I have a new laptop. However my sister needs one and if this is a cheap fix I might as well try to resolve the issue.

My problem: I turn on the NV53 and everything seems to be functioning properly. Everything responds except for the screen. When the laptop is turned on the screen just stays black. I hooked it up to both my tv and my extra monitor and it came back saying no input signal. Any idea on how I could solve this?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try re-seating the memory. Unplug the laptop, remove the battery. The memory should be accessible under a removable cover on the underside of the laptop. Pull the metal clips apart to remove each stick then replace them, first inserting at an angle then pushing down to lock in place.

When you way "everything seems to be functioning properly" aside from the display, what exactly do you mean? Do you hear Windows start in the background? Does the laptop beep if you jam on the keyboard right after powering it on?

I tried that. Still nothing . I don't hear Windows. But the fan turns on.. all indications says everything's good. Keyboard doesn't respond actually. My laptop was running very slow when I was still using it.. friend told me to use a 2g thumb drive as extra ram. Could this have caused an issue

Using a thumb drive as "readyboost" won't cause this. If it was running slow you might have tried a system recovery (just backing up important files first because they could be lost) - this restores the operating system to out-of-the box state.

However, this is a different problem. You should hear Windows after a few minutes, and if you jam on the keyboard when it's starting up it should beep loudly. Now, if you remove all ram (again, unplug it first and remove the battery) and start it without the sticks of ram at all, it should beep. If it doesn't it's definitely a bad motherboard.

Alright I looked into everything. Concluded that it was the motherboard. Guess the computer overheated.. Not worth replacing. Thanks for your time.

there is an ongoing issue with the gateway NV53 seems the sensor/switch that tells the computer the lid is open/closed is stuck in the closed position. I have the same problem, now if I can find out where that sensor/switch is I can either replace it or disconnect it as I usually don`t just close my laptop. I just power it down when I`m done with it.
