Hey guys,

I have a Gateway SX2800-01 - a Mini Tower. Its jammed packed with stuff inside. I am attempting to add more memory to the unit (8GB). I have successfully installed 6 GBs but I can t get to the last slot its blocked by the CD Drive. I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to get the top cover off this unit in order to get to the screws on the cd drive to remove it.

I have had no luck finding this info anywhere and cant seem to find what screws will allow me to remove the top or slide it to i can get to the screws of the cd drive. I see the top screws on the very top of the unit but dont know if i need an alan wrench or regular screwdriver.

Any help would be great.

I have a Gateway SX2800-7 and did the same as you.... did you figure out how to do it?
Thanks,

There are three black clips extending from the left to the right. Bend each up ever so slightly, and then the front cover rolls off to the left, as if on hinges.

As it opens you will be able to pull to the left a little and the plastic "hinges" it is turning on will come out of their holes and the cover will come off in your hand.

Then there are two small screws in front securing the DVD unit. Take these out, and pull the unit to the right slightly and up.

It is attached to the MB with a short black wire, so don't move it too much or you will unplug it. If you do unplug it, no harm done, just plug it back in.

Thanks for the tip about the hinge. I have SX2800-1 and I was worried that I would break the front bezel but I could successfully open the front, remove the DVD drive and add memory after reading your tip.
