GDDR6 and GDDR6x

Solution
Obsolete is a big word. It won't be useless by any means. GDDR6 might just be better which opens more doors for content creators. (Photoshop, video and 3D graphic design, etc.)

For gaming, it'll probably benefit from the speed boost. But that doesn't mean that you'll have to get such a new card. Any GDDR5 or 5X card will still work as good as it is for the coming games. GDDR6 will just have an easier time completing tasks.
Right now we have RUMOURS about GDDR6 COULD be released in LATE 2017 (=2018 realistically)

What we don't know:
- if it's gonna be released
- when it's gonna be released
- if and when it's gonna be implemented in GPUs
- how it will perform
- how it will perform compared to HBM
- if the tech is available and stable in late 2017 or has a high error quote in manufacturing
- how much GDDR6 will cost and therefore if it will become a mainstream tech
- how big the difference is compared to GDDR5/X

So really nobody can possibly answer your question

Not a rumour, they announced it.. (https://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/Micron-Planning-Launch-GDDR6-Graphics-Memory-2017-0)
They announced that they are PLANNING on implementing GDDR6 in GPU's later this year. I quote "planning" because when they encounter issues(, and they probably will,) or delays it might end up coming in 2018 after all. And we know that the memory will receive a huge speedboost.

So does this mean GDDR5 and GDDR5x GPUs will become obsolete afterwards?
