GE62 6QF Apache Pro Issues Freezing Issues?

Hey everyone, I hope that it's going well for you all. I bought this laptop just a few months ago, and things were pretty great for a while, except for a reoccurring sound issue that I'm also having. As for the topic of this post:

Until recently, my games (Skyrim and Civ 5) have been running perfectly fine. Now however, my screen will freeze anywhere between 5-30mins into gameplay. The keyboard still works, and if I can manage to get off of the stuck screen (through task manager, alt + tab, alt + ctrl + delete), I'd be able to surf the internet just fine. This is easier to do for some reason on Civ 5, but with either game, it's more likely that it'll go from the frozen screen, to a black screen the steps mentioned above. The laptop still functions, but with a stuck screen, and no way to get rid of it, I'm usually forced to reboot my laptop. This issue has only cropped up during games so far. Neither game is very demanding of my laptop's specs. This problem just surfaced about a 2 weeks ago.

I've been trying in earnest to research the problem, and below are things that I have attempted:

-Uninstall/Reinstall both games, playing vanilla
-Uninstall/Reinstall Steam
-Ensuring that both games are running through the Nvidia card
-Playing with/without the power cord in
-Cleaning possible dust/debris out with compressed air
-Uninstalling/Reinstalling nvidia and intel drivers
-Updating BIOS
-Giving my laptop as much ventilation as possible. *

More on the last one: I've always used this laptop with a cooling pad, but on Skyrim the keyboard does still get sort of hot. I've turned the colored keypad lights off in the hope of reducing the temperature a bit, but it didn't help. I would think, then, that I could be facing a heating problem, but two days ago (and I've tried other things since) my laptop was in a very cool place, and the keyboard wasn't hot when the game froze (still Skyrim).

Civ 5 is sort of hit/miss when it comes to freezing. I was able to play for as long as I wanted yesterday without issue, but I tried to play it later that day and it froze loading my usual list of mods. Skyrim will reliably freeze, though the timing of it varies between ~5-30 minutes.

-------------------

As it may (possibly?) be related, I'll mention the sound issue that I am having as well. In a nutshell, it'll cut out at some point, and won't work again until I reboot the laptop. It can happen randomly, but it's more likely to happen when plugging in headphones. The sound won't come through the headphones either, nor will it come through the laptop itself when I remove the headphones. Today, for the first time ever, the issue hasn't fixed itself even after a reboot. I'm still covered under the warranty, so perhaps it's best to just call MSI and send it right in, but if these issues can be fixed without the turnaround time, I'd prefer to do that.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance, I'll follow this thread closely.

It's admittedly a cheap one from 5 and Below with 2 fans. I'll purchase a better one tomorrow and see if that'll fix it.

I elected to go with a different cooling pad because the price of the one you linked seemed pretty high by comparison, but I purchased one on Amazon for $18 and that, plus using the fan button on the laptop itself fixed my freezing issue. I'll link the cooling pad I bought below. The sound issue was fixed by reinstalling both sound drivers a couple of times. Huge thanks to you Carnaxus, you definitely pointed me in the right direction!

Wow, four fans. Mine has been beaten, both in cooling and in price.

Good find.

...In fact, I'm gonna get one. That looks overall higher quality than mine, and with the built-in USB hub it even fixes the problem mine has where it eats up two of my three USB ports.
