Hey guys,
since a while i have massive FPS problems with my MSI laptop and the Geforce 1070.
Here are my specs:

7th Gen. Intel® Core™ i7 processor
17.3" FHD (1920x1080), 120Hz, 5ms, Wide-View
GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5
32GB MB Ram
Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250 GB
STAT 1TB

I tried and checked a couple of things:
  • reinstall windows and drivers
  • deinstall geforce experience
  • installed newest driver
  • activated the geforce 1070 as main card for everything
  • added my games manually in the geforce settings and activated the geforce for them
  • the performance/energy handling of my laptop is set to "full performance"

----

Problem description:
The FPS is dropping massive to low as 4-6 FPS. I also have high fps sometimes like 120 FPS.
Or it is going up and down. The games are now playable. Sometime i am lucky and i have high and good FPS
for 20 minutes. But mostly my FPS is kinda low and/or changing the whole time.

Tested games:
Battlefield V
Overwatch
Apex
Borderlands 3

Laptops are notorious for cooling problems.
Particularly gaming laptops.
Overheating causes throttling.
A problem after 20 minutes smacks of heat buildup.
Verify that your cooling airways are free of dust.
Verify that your cpu cooling fan is actually running.

Are you gaming on battery?
If so, your performance will be degraded.

A counter intuitive option is to REDUCE your cpu performance.
In windows power options, reduce from 100% to perhaps 75%.
Theory is that a lower constant performance might avoid throttling.
