GeForce 2+ and AGP

I have a 440BX based motherboard and was wondering if its AGP 2X would be sufficient for cards like GeForce 3 and beyond. Based on the articles I've read, cards with onboard memory do not gain that much from AGP. Any ideas?

The difference between AGP 2x and 4x is very minimal... maybe 2-5%.
