I recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Pro. In windows 98 I got a 3d Mark 2000 score of 5750 and all my games ran smoothly. Now in Windows 2000 I get a 3d Mark 2000 score of 3700????? I'm running the same driver revision 12 but just switched to W2k drivers and OS. Is Win 2k really that bad? I thought I read reviews on Toms that Win 2k sped up games by like 5%....

Actually, in most of the systems I have seen, Win2k causes a performance drop in benchmarking results of around 8% to 10%. But most games run just as well as in Win98, and sometimes even better, due to the added stability of the OS.

You mentioned that your games ran smoothly in Win98 ... are you experiencing some kind of screen jitter or crashing issues with Win2k?

Have you installed any of the Service Packs?

How about some details on your system?

I could handle a performance drop of 8%-10% given the added stability but a drop of 45% is truelly extreme! Win2k is not jittery simply slow. All games are running noticably slower.
I've installed all the service packs including the one for DirectX.

I have a:
P3-1000 on a Asus CUSL2, with 256MB of Tomicom PC166 SDRAM, Creative Labs Geforce 256 DDR, Soundblaster Live....

I think that the issue must be with Nvidia drivers, but there is no way to contact Nvidia or anyone about driver issues. :(

Go here http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com They have a wide array of Nvidia drivers for you to test out. Some drivers seem to work better on some systems for no apparent reason. Try a couple of different sets and see if you can get a better result.

Blah, Blah Blahh, Blahh, blahh blah blahh, blah blah.
