I am planning to buy my friend's Gainward Geforce 4 ti 4200 card for £30. One thing is a bit annoying however - I use the composite TV-out feature on my GF4mx to watch DIVXs on my TV, but the GF4ti has only S-video out (doesnt have the extra composite pins on the connector).

Is it possible to solder on an S-video connector which does have the extra pins for composite? Or would you also need to add a chip/diodes to the PCB? (The solder pads for composite are there)

My friends gainward ti4200 came with a converter that plugs into the s-video and then allows you to connect to the standard a/v inputs. If i'm understanding what you're asking correctly, check the packaging and see what's included. If not, you likely would be able to order it for under $20 (random pricing guess based off of an old memory)

That converter needs the 7 pin S-video port (3 pins are composite). The one in question only has a 4 pin port, so Id need to replace the port - not too hard. But I dont know if it would work...

A lot of the card jacks have 6-pins, where 2 output to the composite dongle.

I've never seen a card with S-Video only, every card I've looked at that only had one connector had a 6-pin connector, where 4 are S-Video and 2 are breakout connections for a composite dongle.

Look at his connector and count the pins again, if it's 4 pin, it's S-Video only, but if it's 6 pin it can use a breakout dongle.
