the motherboard is not detcting my VGA card for some reason. i have the graphic card in the fan is running but the display is working from the onboard motherboard video card 🙁

i have
-500W PSU so its not low power issue
-VGA model: geforce 8400 gs 1gb ddr3
-motherboard: biostar g31d-m7
- i tried plugging and unlplugging no point
- i couldnt find any BIOS option to enable PCI-e or disable onboard card

Does the gpu have a fan, and if so, does it come on? If not, there is a nonzero chance the card can't get adequate power.

Other alternatives include:
Dead GPU (does it work in another system?)
Bad slot (does a working GPU work in the PCIe slot?)
BIOS support issues (are you running the most recent version of the BIOS?)
You're missing the option in the BIOS somehow, despite saying you've checked.
