Geforce 8600 vs geforce 9500

this is going to be my first build and i was looking at 2 video cards, EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail and EVGA 512-P3-N956-TR GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
both are the same price but all signes point to the 9500 being better

are there any other cards that are better for around the same price?

The 9500GT is basically a 8600GT with a die shrink and a slight overclock, it'll be a little faster.

If you can afford it I'd go with a HD4670.

< +1 The 9500gt perform horrible compared to the hd 4670. If you prefer the green team atleast go for the 9600gso.

A 4670 will be roughly twice as powerful as an 8600/9500gt.
As you can get a 4670 for about the same price, $55 after MIR, it is a much better choice.

Of the two, the Corsair is much better.
Generally speaking, stick to a Corsair, PCP&C, Seasonic, Enermax or Antec Earthwatts PSU for the best quality.
It is not, however, the unit I would recommend to you.
For $10 less, pick up a PCP&C Silencer 500w.

That really depends on your resolution is, what games you play and how high you want to turn up the settings.
If you do not mind playing at lowered resolution/in game quality, you can probably keep this card for quite some time.
It is, however, just a midrange card so do not expect any miracles.

Depends on how often you upgrade. Do you buy a new card every time a new series comes out?
My guess is the HD4670 should keep you happy for a year to year and a half unless you really need to play crysis.

na even at low res and lower settings a 4670 will be able to play crysis (even my old 8600 was able to play it at 1440x900 low settings) If you want to play with all the games maxed out you should probably buy a different card, but if you want to just be able to play the games a 4670 should be able to last you for a while

then as everyone else said a 4670 should suit you very well. It will play games (given not maxed out but it sounds like you dont really care about that) for a good long time, and can be found for cheap

Both are basically the same.
If you do not need the second DVI port, I would recommend getting the cheaper Gigabyte card.
