Geforce 9500 GT + Pentium 4 3.2 ghz = very strange behaviour :|

Hello,

(First of all, sorry for my bad english )

I recently bought a new Galaxy Geforce 9500 GT card to replace my old fx5500, i also have an ASUS P5KPL/1600 motherboard with 2 gigs of RAM and a single core, Pentium 4 ,3.2 ghz CPU.

I installed the new video card but now my pc acts very strange, the performance is...hm...unstable. I tested a lot of games (Fallout 3, Crysis, COD4, Mirror's edge, Mass effect) with both highest and lowest settings, it doesn't really mather, the problem is the same: i can play the game for 2-5 minutes perfectly, without any slowdown/freeze with constant FPS rate, but after 2-5 minutes the game slows down and starts to lag to a point where isn't playable at all. When i close tha game and restart it, i can play it again for 2-5 minutes.

I installed the latest drivers, the latest directx, i tryed to disable/enable PhysX support in may card, i defragmented my HDD, reinstalled windows (XP), enabled/disabled HyperThreading in my cpu but no effect... I also checked the temperatures when playing, CPU: 50-60 deg, GPU: 60-70 deg, motherboard: 50 deg, i think that's OK. I also checked the voltages with the SpeedFan apllication: Vcore: 1,34-1,47 V, GPU: 11,7 - 12 V.

Use Prime95, and report the temps on high. The CPU and components might be overheating.

Set your GPU fan to 80% before gaming and see if that helps.

I changed the cpu fan speed but nothing happened, it still remained very quite.

Your CPU is getting hot...Very hot.
Check the fan and cooler are clear of dust and crap and that the cooler is firmly seated by GENTLY trying to rock it from side to side.

Ok, but the heating to 70 deg can cause such a big impact on perfomance ?

Yes.
When the CPU reaches a certain tempertaure it slows itself down, a process called 'throttling'.
Without the exact processor number I cannot say at what temperature it will throttle, but it seems to me that is possibly your problem.
Pop the side off the case and take a look.
And run the system with the side off for a while you play a game and monitor the temperatures, see if it makes any difference.

Not yet, just check it and see if it is blocked!
This may not be the problem and even if it is, you can clean the dust and fluff off with a toothbrush if you are careful.
Also can you give us the details of your powersupply: Maker and model or amps on the +12v output (this is on a label on the PSU, you will see it when you take the side off to examine the CPU cooler).

Yes if there is a large amount of dus stuck in the CPU fan oyu can use a can of compressed and and blow it out,

I checked the fan, it's working and it's clean, i usually use compressed air to clean it periodicaly. I also checked my power supply, i cant find the maker's sign, i think it's a noname stuff I founnd this on the label:
