geforce 970 upgrade

i have a argus aps 520w power supply w/ one 8 pin (6+2) conector connected to my gerorce gtx 960 but i wan't to upgrade to a 970 is it okay to use a 8 pin splitter (8 pin to 2x 8 pin connecter) because i do not want to destroy my video card

get something like a seasonic s12ii 80+bronze 520w/620w or EVGA supernova g2 550w its now on sale for 60$ thats a snipe.
