GeForce 9800 GT Win 7 crashes frequently ...

I've had a GeForce 9800 GT on Win7 64 bit for about a year with no trouble. About a month ago I got an alert from either Windows Update or the Nvidia software (I don't remember which) telling me that a driver updated was available. So I downloaded and installed it.

Since then the driver will often crash. Sometimes the screen goes blank for 5-10s and then I get a message telling me that the driver crashed and that it was able to right itself. More often, the screen just goes blank and I have no choice but to do a hard reset of the PC.

I notice that this often happens when I open a Web page on YouTube or a page with an embedded YouTube video. And it doesn't seem heat-related as it sometimes happens within a few minutes of booting.

Any recommendations or ideas?

Sounds like a corrupted driver issue. Use Driver Sweeper to do a clean uninstall of the driver and then reboot the computer and install the latest driver. Usually when you update a driver using the default way, sometimes, bits of the older driver can linger around causing conflicts and such. It's always best to do a clean installation by uninstalling the old driver first.

I disabled Flash hardware acceleration and reinstalled Flash, haven't seen the problem since. Thanks for the help.
