GeForce FX 5900 Ultra vs Radeon 9800 Pro

Hi guys,

I recently read the VGA Buyer's Guide here at Tom's Hardware, and noticed the advantage in performance that the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra has over the Radeon 9800 Pro. My question is, even though it is better performance wise, is it also better quality wise? I've seen in the past that ATI cards appeared to have a better visual quality than Nvidia's. Maybe someone can help me, thanks.

The preformance is about the same. That buyers' guide SUX!

In fact the two trade top spot depending on the game/benchmark used (Tom's only used 3!)

So go with whichever one you can buy for the least amount of money. There are also alot of other issues involved such as cheating and IQ (image quality, like you mentioned) for a better idea head to the Graphics card forum.

Thanks man,
that review helped alot. I was leaning towards the ATI cards anyways because Nvidia just seems to cheat and sacrifice a few FPS for great losses in visual quality. I'll probably wait for the new line of ATI cards to buy one, I have a GeForce 4 Ti4200, and for the games that I play, it seems plenty good. I'd rather wait for the next gen cards that breeze over HL2 and Doom 3 rather then go spend $400 right now for a 9800 Pro. Thanks again

No problem, glad I could help. And yes wait. The cads will get much better, and those you listed will be much cheaper.

I'm personally waiting for the R420/RV380 and the NV40. Thoseshould REALLY be next gen. And by the sounds of it, the gams that will kill your GF4won't be out 'til those hit the shelves.

PS: Forget my post in the GraphicsCard forum it's more for entertainment value to the 'regulars' than anything. I knew I'd already got you here, and you were getting good advice there.
