Hi. I just bought a geforce gts 450 yesterday to replace my overheated 3yr old geforce 8800gt but as soon as i installed it i noticed that my pc got slower and it lags. I also tried playing games like cod blackops and the same thing happens, lags and low fps, really low like 10-20fps. I played these games fine with my old gpu. I downloaded the latest driver for it but that also didnt fix the problem. I need help guys. Im not a techie guy, i can figure out whats wrong with it. Thanks.

Here are my specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
Memory: 4026MB RAM DDR2
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1GB
PSU: 400w but it says max output is 140w
OS: Windows Vista 64bit

My motherboard is an Intel DPP3510J.15A and my computer is a Gateway FX7026. Do you think buying a new PSU will solve my problem? And if so what brand and wattage of PSU do you guys recommend?

OK I have the same problem as Razerboy - I just bought a whole new system (my old one crashed) but here are my new system specs.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Intel Core i3 540 @ 3.07GHz
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D-E (LGA1156)
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 FPB (free power boost)
4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 560MHz
500GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKS-65YGA0 ATA Device (SATA)
500w ANTEC Sonta II case

-I had the nvidia 8800 gt with my old system and I could play dirt 2 no problem, Crysis 1 &2, Far Cry 1&2, Half Life, all the big games! But now with this new card, when I play Dirt 2 - the game stutters, and crashes.

I've read all the forums for the new GTS 450 and the critics rave about it. They compare it to the ATI 5780. I hate it - I think the card totally sucks. And every time I try to overclock the card - it freezes and the system crashes. I only bought the card in December - maybe I bought a dud?

I should have spent the extra 100 buks and bought a GTX series. I dont know. The overclocking tools I've used are EVGA Precision, RTuner, ATI TOOL. NONE OF THEM WORK other that to crash my system.

Well - thats more story.

id say the old 8800gt doesnt use much difference in power to the gts450. id say the problem lies in drivers and such. run driver sweepwer, reboot and install the latest drivers. Also the gts450 is not much more powerful than the 8800gt. When running dirt 2 your looking at lower performance because it utilises dx11 on the gts450. If you wanted to see a decent upgrade in performance you should have got the gtx460.

is it 5770 or 5870? GTS450 actually sits between 5750 and 5770. but if they really did compare some entry level card to high end cards then they are nuts :na:
btw i've also have problem with some games with my GTX460 such as COD: BO and BFBC2. my previous GTS250 are much better in term of stability in game. but with the latest driver (forceware 266.58) BFBC2 got better but still no luck with COD:BO. but COD:BO is quite problematic to begin with especially if you're using dual core cpu. does your card cannot be overclock at all?

GTS 450 at stock under max load uses the same power as a max clocked 8800/9800gt at 105-109w. A stock G92 GT is typically under 90w usually around 84w for a 65nm sample while the figures are lower for a 55nm sample depending on voltage and clocks. The GTS 450 can go beyond 109w figure when overclocked but I wouldn't expect any thing higher than 130w~ or so.

hey guys thanks for your insight. I should have bucked up the extra cash for a better card. I was thinking best card for my money. But yea poop on me. Oh well.

It is funny tho - an 8800gt - which was from like 3-4yrs ago performed better than a brand new card. (GTS 450) - I have the driver 260.99. I will update.. dont expect anything different. but yea.

Im rambling now
thanks again

You are ok but in some games you will need to clean out old settings that sometimes limit the performance of newer cards. As for the 8800gt I bought one for physx and landed a small boost in mafia 2 but my cpu is holding me back but yea the G92 era was one of the best in a long time. Be sure to hang on to your old card and you will be glad that you did.
