GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with 3 x 6-pin connectors

Hi there,

I have bought a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti for my workstation, an HP Z820. The standard PSU comes with 3 x 6-pin connectors.

I have tried using two 2 x 6-pin -> 1 x 8-pin splitters. The first one is fed by 2 6-pin and the other is fed by the third (and last) 6-pin.

Since every 6-pin connector is rated for 75W and the PCie slot provides an additional 75W, I thought 300W was more than sufficient to power the card.

Yet, when powering up, I get the BIOS message "connect the PCIe power cables".

Do you know if the 2 x 8-pin is absolutely a must for this card? Else I have to think that the card might be defective.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the lightning fast reply! Unfortunately the HP Z820 is 100% custom parts. I have found some 1125W PSUs compatible with the HP Z820, but they plug into a custom slot and I will have to continue using the connectors provided by the motherboard. Perhaps there's a hack somewhere... The standard PSU is 850W, it should be sufficient to feed the card.

What do you think?

TIA,
V
