geforce video card issues

i have an emachines desktop computer that runs windows vista home premium with service pack 2 32-bit operating system. The Processor is an Intel(R) pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz 2.99GHz. the origanal display adapter is an Intel(R) 82945G Express chipset family. A few years back when the Sims 3 came out the computer couldn't handle the game so i called EA games support and they told me I needed to upgrade the video card. I bought a geforce video card (not sure what one) and power supply. They worked real well for some years but now when i click the control center it says the computer could not detect the device. The computer went back to running the original display adapter. What i want to know is how do i get the g fore video card back working?

Reseat the card. If it does not work, it may be that the card has gone bad. Try testing it in another computer.

Come to find out the video card was not installed correctly. My husband pulled it out to dust and when he put it back it suddenly installed.
