Geil ram AMD vs Intel versions

I am looking to build with Ryzen on the Asus B350 Strix MB. I came across some Geil ram and tried finding out if it would work for me. I found out that it is the Intel version and that there is no AMD version that I can buy even though it does exist. Checked QVL and AMD version is on there but the older version and not the newer one which claims to be verified. At least from what I can see. I may have missed it.
The question I have is, what is the difference? The speed, timings and even look are the same. Is there really a difference or is this just marketing fluff? The Intel ram should work on AMD boards right?
Also, how is Newegg Canada if I buy the ram and it doesn't work? Am I out of luck or can I return it? How long would I have to do so?

Greetings!

I am dubious to if there is really such a thing as "Intel" vs. "AMD" compatibility for RAM. As far as I have ever seen, saying it is compatible, just means it has been tested and verified to work...more of a soft guarantee rather than a hard compatibility thing. RAM is RAM and if your motherboard supports the Geil RAM you are interested in, then the RAM should generally work. I have never seen RAM choose sides between Intel and AMD, and if you think about it, if they did, they would either be limiting their own market share, or creating a marketing and particularly customer service nightmare by offering two identical looking, but functionally different products. Neither of these paths make good business sense.

I am from the States, and have never dealt with Newegg Canada, but I imagine they are just as reputable as their US branch.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I expected it to be the same but am still confused that the company would make such a choice. The intel stuff isn't quite marketed as intel except when you look at the specs. The amd stuff, there is a separate page. It contains all the same information and pictures but includes amd in the name. The specs listing shows it's compatibility with each ryzen cpu.
Either way, I was just curious. Found some team ram that is priced better and will probably go with that.

Awesome! Team should serve you well. Yeah, it may be a marketing choice resulting from the few issues with RAM that were around when Ryzen first hit the scene...but as far as I can tell, most of those bugs have been worked out now that the platform has had some time to get its legs under it. I hope your build goes smoothly!

ram belongs to easy return category, usually open box will charge a restocking fee, fees may vary for different country. However, if the ram is defective, it should be free of charge to replace. Geil does not make very good rams, quality-wise. In general, Intel and AMD mbs will try to be compatible with any ddr4 rams they can find, so it is the other way around. Ram manufacturer doesn't make ram to be compatible with one of them, but mb manufacturer will keep updating BIOS to be compatible with new rams. I strongly recommend G.Skill ripsaw, very good budget choices.

RAM is just a RAM. Just look for Samsung B-die kits as they work better in ryzen platform. I am currently running FlareX on b350f asus but with 4 sticks of this ram I can to reach 3200 stable and it is not under qvl. However working great with 3066mhz for 4x8gb config no issues.
Also keep refund option handy. It will help you a lot. Ryzen is a bit picky with rams and don't go with corasir lpx kits they are not good on this mobo.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I was just surprised by the Geil ram and figured I would ask. It doesn't make any sense to me. Even from a marketing standpoint, why not tag all the ram Ryzen compatible and make it less confusing for the customer. Tbh, as I looked, just about anything that was confusing just got cut out lol.

I am only going to be running an r3 1200 so I wont be spending too much on ram. Getting 2666. I don't have the money for a full rebuild so doing everything a little at a time starting with the main 3. Coming from a Q6600 will be a nice upgrade. After that I should look towards case and GPU since my case sucks and my current GPU is an r9 270 which probably wont get the job done for much longer. Later in the life, I will upgrade ram to something bigger/better and near the end of b350 support, I intend to upgrade to an r5 cpu.

That's a very good plan you have. Don't go beyond 2666 becs it will not add much benefit in your situation. You may even think of a basic 2400 kit save some money and use it afterward.
And adding ryzen on a ram is just like putting GAMING at the end of a motherboard name which all of us know that it is pointless. Funnyyy! But what I think is the B-die which works better with ryzen than hynix and other controller. However if you are @2400 again it will not matter. Go for 2400 if it is available with less price margin than 2666 kit
