Hello, I am upgrading my pc. I am wondering if ordering a gen5 M.2 drive with gen5 m.2 16x motherboard would be best. I know that if I plug in a gen5 in the first m.2 slot (the gen m5 16x one) then the PCIe port for the graphic card will drop to 8x. Will that impact my fps. I am using an rtx 4080 in 4k.

So basically gen4 m.2 with 16x 4080 vs gen5 m.2 with 8x 4080

If I am not mistaken all intel motherboard with the z790 chipset are like that. I am probably going to buy the rog strix z790-e gaming but not sure yet.

It would impact fps at resolutions 1080p, 1440p.
At 4k resolution impact would be minimal.

Here's review with 4090 PCIE performance scaling. 4080 would have similar impact.
