Hello! I posted on this forum maybe 8 years ago seeking help on building my first tower. It sort of died yesterday.
I have been accumulating various components over the past several years, originally hoping to build a new tower in a couple months. My current tower dying has sort of forced my hand. I'm hoping you all will be able to help me again on making a true beast of a machine.
I tried to follow the guidelines in the PC Build Advice sticky. Thanks for your help!
Approximate Purchase Date: Immediate
Budget Range: ~$6000 (including monitors and excluding pre-purchased parts)
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, 3D modeling, data modeling, etc

Parts Preferences: No preference. Currently eyeing the AMD Threadripper processors and already have an EVGA 3090, along with other parts.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Ran into some software/OS upgrades on my current tower that bricked it. Considering it is ~7 years old at this point, I think it's time. I need something to last me another 6-8 years that can handle some heavier computational work and heavy gaming.
I have a couple of specific questions/topics that I'm hoping you all can help me with.
- I want to fill up all of the RAM slots on the motherboard (8). I already have 4 sticks of Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4-3466 CL16 Memory. Should I grab an additional 4 sticks of this or opt for an entirely different RAM? It is slightly older memory, but reviews still say it is decent. The goal is a minimum of 64gb of RAM.
- I am lost on cases. I may eventually create a custom cooling loop, but that's not a priority right now because I am currently tower-less. I want to make sure the 3090 will fit, and that there is enough room for adding a custom water loop at some point. In the meantime I will be opting for a standard Corsair/Kraken CPU water cooling system. I did not include it in the pcpartpicker list because I am unsure about fan/radiator sizes. I do not need a case that allows for a computer-within-a-computer. That's a bit too much room and will not fit where the tower needs to go...
- I have been gaming on 1440p and have had my current monitors for ~7 years now. Shifting to 4k has me anxious. I haven't kept up much on different monitor companies, so I took a stab at both 1440p and 4k monitors below. Is 4k on 27" monitors worth it/noticeable? I remember the shift from 1080 to 1440 being very nice, but I would probably be content with consistent, blazing performance on 1440p monitors.
- I'm not sure how overkill to go on power supply. Keeping in line with the mindset of future-proofing, I'm leaning between a 1200 and a 1600 watt in case piece-meal upgrades are needed along the way. Does anyone have any positions for/against either? Is a 1600 watt really necessary?
- Any other wisdom or things I should think about?
