Generic Hero XXX

While running around last night, I happened to catch a thread being
broadcast about someone complaining that their character was renamed by the
Devs. Seems he may have had a copyrighted name. This was never confirmed
or denied when the question was brought up and the player just went silent.
So it is assumed that is what happened. Does anyone know of someone this
has happened to as well? I have a toon that is pretty damn close to being a
copyrighted character (Smart Hulkster) but luckily he's only a Level 7
Tanker that I rarely play. I do however now have one that was inspired by
the Borg and I hope he doesn't get wiped.

This begs the next question . . .

A guy in my super group was named Bishop of XSE, and was renamed to
GenericHero3090 or some such. After a couple of days he had a new name
and 2 new costumes (free of normal influence charges for new costumes).
All in all not a bad deal for him.

Copyrighted hero names, trademarked hero images, rude/profane names will
get genericheroed when discovered by the GMs.

Since there's no comic hero called "Smart Hulkster", i'd say you're safe
from a name change, unless you also have him looking like the Hulk.

Hulk makes me think of The Incredible Hulk; Hulkster makes me think of
Hulk Hogan.

Happens pretty frequently, or did before I left CoH. I imagine they're
cracking down harder specifically on Marvel names, given the suit.
Does the character bear a strong resemblance to the Marvel character?
If not, you may be safe, but don't be surprised if you find yourself
with a Generic Hero name. Don't worry, you'll be given a chance to
choose a new name if it does happen.

Not Batman

We were in the middle of a mission when his name flipped to G.H. 980

He got a new costume out of it so he wasn't too annoyed. At level 12 or
so too.

Both of which are, actually, trademarked. "Hulkster" is also commonly
used as a nickname for The Incredible Hulk, too. He may be safe if his
character bears no resemblance to these, but no guarantee.

Which is also a trademarked name, IIRC. Maybe even in some branch of the
comics genre.

Going by the number, it looks like heroes found in violation of
the EULA number less than 1% of the population. Of course, they
could be reusing numbers.

Hulkster is copyrighted by Marvel.

It was on loan for 20 years to the artist formerly known as hulk
hogan.

That agreement expired, and he is now simply known as hollywood hogan
