With the exception of cards that are not equivalents of an Ati card
(my 9600 Pro VIVO, for instance - Ati don't make one).

Thank you so much. I appreciate the profundity of your comment, too.

My comment was based on the fact the Sapphire make ATI's cards for them
.... a bit of reading could help you there. I always have a laugh when
I read people in here saying you need to get a "made by ATI" card ...
there is no such thing.

ATI do a reference card and sub-contract others to make them ... good
business model that .... your comments that ATI does not put out a VIVO
model therefore is laughable.

Used to be, ATi built all of their own chips. I think they used to
build some of their own cards. But even back as far as 89, ATi cards I
have from then have "Made In Canada" stamped on them. My later Built By
ATi cards have Made In China stamped on them. Perhaps ATi *owns* some
facilities in other countries? It isn't like they can't afford them :)
I have one Radeon 7000 card with a different brand onit, and it's also
made in China.
In the end, the only thing that matters is they still charge you with a
phone call.

No, it's not. The fact is that Ati do not make a 9600 Pro VIVO card
while Sapphire do. The Sapphire card, furthermore, does not appear to
work with any of MMC's TV apps ; therefore the inference is that the
Rage Theater chip is not a reference Ati model, but Sapphire's own.
In fact, the reason I specifically sourced a Sapphire card was because
of the widely held opinion that Sapphire cards are identical to Ati
cards, whereas subsequent reading on the Sapphire site revealed that
many models - _including_ ones that parallel current Ati cards -
actually are not.
