Genuine HP 74XL cartridge not recognized by HP printer

HP C4450 All in One printer stopped recognizing HP 74XL cartridge as a high capacity cartridge. It prints with the XL cartridge installed, but does not recognize it as an "XL" cartridge. This is the second time this has happened. The cartridges were purchased from Staples and are genuine HP. Since this has happened to several cartridges, is there a contact that requires cleaning? Does someone have a map of the contacts to show which might be used by the printer for identifying whether a standard or high capacity (XL) has been installed. Thanks whpc

Agree with WyomingKnott.

Will add though that even if Staples "believes" the cartridges are genuine HP it is all too easy for counterfeit products to be fed into the supply chain.

Would be good if you can find another working HP printer that uses the same cartridge. Try the cartridge(s) there. See how the cartridge prints and is recognized.
