how do I install new hard drive on my lap top A have the new drive in but screen comes up blank have the windows xp disk in cd rom drive its a hp pavilion D 2000

You need to either hit the one-time boot key, F11, F12, ??? or go into the bios and set the cd-rom as the first boot device. Be sure to press a key when it says so to boot from the cd-rom drive.

did you go inside the bios and set it to boot with cd rom insted of hard drive?
after that bobs your uncle

Thanks for the help did all that you said its still not working Blank screen comes up and cd drives winds up and thats all it does.....
