get 8800GT or keep 1950Pro

Hello, All

Yes its me again. but i have a qestion. before i make up my mind. I use my LG 20.1" Widescreen 2ms 5000:1 contrast. and its a awesome LCD. we'll i think so. I have my powerColor 1950Pro with X2 cooler. Never goes over 58c while gaming. now i run my games at 1680x1050 maxed settings. no aa/af i belive is the short name for the both of them. now would i see a benfit in the 8800GT. and if i did what would i see. as far as game play and such. because i am still new to this new high tech computer stuff. to the quad's and such. so here is my setup.

Cosair 2x2gb ddr2 800 XMS2
74gb raptor and 160gb both WD
700 Watt Thermaltake ToughPower total amps 56 4 12v rails 18 amps each

Powercolor 1950Pro with X2 cooler
LG 20"1 Widescreen. 1680x1050

the reason i am asking is because i would like to get this card and not have to upgrade for about maybe a year if i can help it lol or more. or would make my games runs better even more maxxed out. then they are. and not i dont wanna spend on a 8800GTX.

So please let me know.

YES.

Without doubt you will benefit from the upgrade as future games, like crysis, etc demand a lot from graphics cards and the 8800gt is almost as good as the 8800gtx for half the price.

if you need further proof, lookat the toms graphics card charts

OR... you could wait and see how the new ATI 3800 performs, as itll have DX10.1 for future features

If you can wait for a month or so, you will have more options and better pricing. Right now the 8800GT is a bit overpriced because of high demand. Also ATI's new cards supporting DX 10.1 will be available towards mid November. Patience my friend! If you have waited so long, 4 more weeks will not harm you...

after like 2 years being or longer being on my amd 3000+ and see the thing i dont get is. how long would a 8800GT last for me. am not trying ot upgrade every year on video cards lol. am trying to save for other 2-3 years lol before i build again.

but someone on hard forums for a 8800GTS 320mb would it be worth it. its Evga. for $175 obo lol. which i think would be a good deal lol

The 8800gt seems like a great deal so far. As far as not wanting to upgrade too often, its hard to not upgrade your video card every year or two, especially if you play at high resolutions. Plan on a 200-400 upgrade within the life of your computer (around 2-3 years).

I would get the 8800gt now, or wait until the beginning of december to see if prices have settled and how the new ATI chips are performing.

Wait till HD3800 reviews but 10.1 is like hardly ever used.

The 8800GT is a huge step above your card. But I'd keep the X1950 pro for a few more weeks. This first batch of 8800GT's was in short supply. If you buy now you will be paying a premium over retail price and probably not get the exact brand/card you want. Give it a few weeks and the new ATI's will be out. Rumors are they will be cheaper than the 8800GT but not quite as fast. Either way, I'd think the price gouging will be over soon and you could get an 8800GT for the $200-250 they should be. Plus you get two weeks or so to let the guinea pigs test theirs.

I'd keep the pro until even more dx10 games come out or for that matter we start seeing cards / drivers that can run dx10 so well that it's actually worthwhile.
If you have money burning a hole in your pocket spend it on memory or something.
