Thinking about getting a 1080 ti. I have a 980 ti but it isn't running good enough for me anymore so I would like to upgrade. The cost of the card isn't really a concern for me. I just don't wanna get this card then have the next gen card come out a few months later. I can wait 2 months or so but not much more.

Solution
Depends on what resolution you are running. Very few people actually NEED a 1080 Ti.

For example, I have a Zotac AMP! Extreme 1080 Ti, and I run games at 3440 x 1440 100Hz Ultra, no exceptions. There is exactly one game (barring unoptimized games that don't utilize the full CPU) that my avg fps is under 100, and that is Far Cry 5. And even that runs at 55fps at 4k 60Hz.

So unless you are running a very high resolution something less will work, or you might even wait for the 11 series.

[strike]Volta[/strike] (Actually they're saying its Turing now, not sure why they are going away from Volta seeing as the Titan V is the big boy on the block now but whatever) should be coming soon enough. I think latest estimates have it at Q3 2018 reasonably it...

I think latest estimates have it at Q3 2018 reasonably it should be about August- early September, however some sources say as early as July 2018.

But there is also the possibility it won't be released then (since an official release or announcement has not been made) or will be pushed back so it's really up to you.

Solution

I think they are optimizing for clock speed with Turing and large silicon with Volta, not to mention the tensor cores. I suspect they'll also split out Turing for GDDR6 and Volta for HBM2 and up.

Well until they get off their butts and make an announcement we won't really know 😀

Exactly. Those are "leaks", which more often than not turn out to be someone's speculation. They don't even know what they will be named yet. They are thinking of naming them by 5's not 10's. They also said the 1080 Ti was going to outperform the Titan X (Pascal) by 15% too. That turned out to be pretty exaggerated.

Let's just wait til they are actually announced, or better yet, see some actual benchmarks before quoting statistics.

Regardless, if trends stay the same, the 1080 equivalent in the 11-series is going to be a lot more than 20% faster than a 1080 Ti.
