Get EVO 850 now or wait?

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to get an SSD as a new primary for my mobile workstation. As of now, the EVO 850 250GB seems the best option for me.

I have one question however: are there any expected price drops in the near future? Maybe something that has to do with the growing M.2 market or the introduction of a new EVO series that I'm unaware of. I wouldn't like it if I bought the EVO now only to find out its price is halved two months later.

Thanks in advance,

SSDs and M.2s use the same type of memory banks, but they do serve different form factors and functions. The introduction of one wont impact the price of another.

The 840/850 Evo is good for a C drive if you are going to mostly read from it. If you wish to use it a single drive in a mobile workstation - it is best if you step up to the 850 Pro. The Pro has increased durability and write speed consistency throughout its longer life (compared to the Evo).

Thank you for your reply.

The new SSD is indeed intended as a C drive for the OS and some Adobe and Autodesk software. So mostly for read, as you said. I'll have a secondary drive for storage.
As for the 850 Pro, I don't think the increased durability is worth the 30% higher price. I'll go for the 850 EVO.
